An Introduction to Early Christian Symbolism: A Series of Compositions from Fresco-Paintings, Glasses and Sculptured Sarcophagi
London / New York, Art and Book Co. / Benziger, 1900. Revised edition. Cloth. 61 pp. [34] leaves of plates. Illus. with uncolored copper plate engravings with tissue guards. Folio (39 cm). W.R. Brownlow and J. Spencer Northcote made a number of changes to Palmer's original (1859 & 1885), mainly in the area of accuracy of the illustrations (Palmer had sometimes rendered a painting as a sculpture if he thought the composition better). Extremities worn with some loss at the spine ends and corners, edges of boards faded, interior clean, plates bright, overall still a good or better copy.
